Slievenamon Golf Club news

Published 2 months ago 18th October 2022 by Jamie O’Flaherty

Despite all the privations of the new normal, with weather temperatures taking a huge dip and scheduled maintenance by the ESB resulting in planned blackouts, there was still plenty of golf played this week, and Members took every opportunity to squeeze the best golf they could from the variable weather conditions they encountered. Meanwhile Michael Walsh ably took over the reins on the Course Maintenance from Paul Kenny – who enjoyed a rare and well-earned break in the sun.

Monday’s Mixed Scramble saw the usual enthusiastic contingent from John O’Sullivan’s army take to the course in high good humour. While this competition is noted for its sociability and is a fantastic way for members to play with golfers with whom they might not normally pair, there is still a lot of competitiveness on display. This week the honours went to Herbie Buck, James power and Tadgh Browne on a nett score of  33.5. Robbie Walsh, Robert Phelan and Kathleen Harrington took 2nd on 35.7 and John Doyle, Billy Phelan and Ann Delahunty took 3rd on 37.5.

Slievenamon’s Senior Men were in action on Wednesday, with another great show of golf on display. This week’s winners on 60.8 were Jahn Lacy, Ciaran Bolton and Tadgh Browne, with Liam Meagher, Mick Burke and Matty Tyne in 2nd on 60.8 and John O’Sullivan, Vincent Phelan and Michael Dunlea in 3rd on 61.4.

Our Ladies were out in force for the Sunday/Tuesday 12 Hole Stableford Competition, where Ann O’Dea took 1st on 27 points, Kathleen Kelly 2nd on 23 points and Carmel Condon in 3rd on 22 points. Meanwhile, in Thursday’s Ladies 12 Hole Stableford, Carmel Williams took 1st on 28 points, while Ann Murphy took 2nd on 27 points.
