Hillview Badminton Club back in Full Swing

Published 1 year ago 24th December 2021 by Jamie O’Flaherty

Hillview Badminton Club is back in full swing again, with all members looking forward to a busy season ahead.
And new players who want to keep fit and enjoy themselves playing the world’s fastest racquet sport are most welcome to come along.

All are welcome to join the current players at Hillview Badminton Club, you need only get in touch and a member will help you with anything you require.

For Newcomers
Interested in taking up badminton? It’s only the fastest racquet sport game in the world! Much like the sport of tennis, badminton is a great racquet sport that offers a tremendous amount of benefits for participants. Whether it’s in singles or doubles, badminton is a fun and exciting sport to pick up if you’re looking for an activity that boosts your physical, mental and social aspects of health.

Club Competitions
The County league kicks off in September/October and goes right through until April/May. The first competition involves the men’s and women’s teams followed by the mixed league teams, followed by the mixed league cup. During the season there are lots of competitions to enter if you so wish; these include County women’s and men’s singles and doubles and mixed. Hillview also run their own in-house friendly competitions which are a great deal of fun.
Handicap System
There is a formal County handicap system for those playing at a competitive level; while Hillview also operate an internal system according to their grade and experience; this makes it fair for all concerned.

Player Grading/ Affiliation/ Registration
Players will be graded by the club according to their experience. If any player would like to play in any County league or County competition, they would have to register with that County and also register/affiliate with Badminton Ireland.
Coaching can be offered to any player on request. Formal coaching is available at different stages during the season.
Captains Dinner
The club honours the captains of all its sports in the club by hosting a major social evening at the club; this usually occurs in November and is a highlight for the season.
Social Nights
Hillview hold fairly regular social events throughout the season such as meals out, Christmas night out and an annual quiz night. These events have proved a “big hit” with the badminton players.
Due to Covid, there are some alterations to the above eg. presently only 8 players allowed in the hall [4 players on each court] and there may be a delay with the Tipperary league starting this season. Any queries can be answered by the current members of the Badminton Committee.
Club Manager – 365
Once a member of Hillview, you can then book your badminton matches from the comfort of your home through Clubmanager [with liaison with other players].
