SLIEVENAMON

After the excitement of President Prize week- end last week, we have continued to enjoy a busy Course here at Slievenamon, with Members and Visitors alike making the most of the beautiful conditions on the Course. We are delighted to see more and more young people heading out in the evenings with their parents, and they are always sure of a great welcome here.
Last Friday say the final heat in our Gents’ Slievenamon Open Competition. John Hurley emerged as the overall winner, with Paul Wyn- ne in Second Place, Maurice Egan in third, Anthony Wynne in Fourth and Pat McCarthy in Fifth.
Monday saw the Mixed Scramble take place at a slightly earlier time than usual, as John O’Sullivan dexterously arranged the various groupings to maximise enjoyment. This week the honours went to John Creed, Michael Lawrence and Mary Butler, with Michael O’Meara,Margot Condon and Paula Spillane in second place and Billy Phelan, John Beckett and Mairead O’Donnell taking third.
Tuesday we celebrated International Thank a Greenkeeper Day and the Course rang out with cheers from all the Members to Paul Kenny, Michael Walsh and Peter Carroll as the encountered them on their rounds. It was a welcome opportunity to acknowledge the fantastic work of Greenkeepers throughout the Country, which all too often is overlooked.
The Ladies 12 Hole Stableford on 9 September saw Anne Murphy in 1st place, Norah Ryan in 2nd and Catherine O’Connor in 3rd, while the 12 Hole Champagne Scramble on 14 September saw Margaret O’Brien take 1st, Anne Murphy (in flying form recently) take 2nd and Marie Walsh take 3rd.
The big event at the weekend was the Final of the Slievenamon Open. Results have not yet been revealed at time of going to press so will be included with our next round up.
