(Clonmel Town win 4-3 after penalties)

Clonmel Town had goalkeeper Shane Hannigan O’Connor to thank for their passage through to the first round proper of this seasons FAI Youth Cup.

In a thrilling contest, that saw Cashel Town lead on three occasions, the home side advanced after Hannigan O’Connor produced a brilliant penalty save in the shootout.

However, it had appeared that the visitors would prevail when Ronan Connolly powered a header to the net in extra time but a late goal from Keenan Kerton sent the game to penalties. Clonmel Town had settled quicker than their

opponants and were on top when a defensive mix-up allowed Richard Delaney time in the box and he made no mistake to put Cashel ahead.

Penalty hero: Shane Hannigan O’Connor saves a crucial penalty to help his side advance in the FAI Youth Cup

Charlie Barlow responded for the home side when he drilled a low shot to the bottom corner from the edge of the box but Corey Prendergast restored the Cashel lead when he finished calmly early in the second half.

The in-form Darragh Cronin was on hand to restore parity once more before Connolly and Kerton added their names to the scoresheet before referee Michael Coady blew for full time. In a tense penalty shoot-out Shane Hannigan O’Connor was the hero as he went full stretch to deny the Cashel taker providing the platform for his teammates to finish the job off as Clonmel Town advanced 4-3 on spot kicks.
