Call for plebiscite on any future Lockdown measures
Cllr Niall Dennehy has said that there is an absolute constitunional need for a ‘plebiscite’ on any continuing lockdown measures and on any future plans to deny, curtail or remove people’s Civil Liberties.
“We allegedly live in a Republic, a State in which power lies with the Electorate, with a veto, the right to reject any decision. We have had referenda on same sex marriage, on the abolition of the Seanad and on abortion, yet 18 months into this fiasco, where 6.5 million of Irish quality life years have been destroyed, there has been no referendum. Why? – because the Referendum Commission would be obliged to secure that both sides of the argument were heard/aired across our newspapers, televisions etc, a right denied by Government heretofore,” said Cllr Dennehy.
