Cahir Notes

Published 2 years ago 11th September 2021 by Editor

Cahir Comhaltas will bring their annual Tradfest back onto the streets and in person this year, following a virtual event in 2020, due to the pandemic. The event will begin on Friday the 17th of September, with the opening address in Cahir House Hotel. The weekend will involve plenty seisuinanna ceol in local establishments, as well as plenty onstreet entertainment. We wish everybody involved the very best of luck and isn’t it brilliant to see a bit of normality beginning to return.
Following a hugely popular event recently, where they screened the film Excalibur to a large crowd, Cahir Social and Historical society are already announcing their next event. Outdoors at the castle takes place this coming weekend. On Thursday evening, Tipperary born novelist Donal Ryan will be appearing.
Donal is the author of The Spinning Wheel and Strange Flowers. On Friday evening, Ireland’s leading vocal harmony and barbershop quartet “Four in a Bar” will perform, while on Saturday Sibéal Ní Chasaide and Odhrán Ní Chasaide will perform. mSibéal, is best known for her performance of Mise Eire during the 1916 commemorations . She will be joined by her father, Odhrán, head of Tradition al Music at DIT and a member of the folk group, Na Casaidigh. You can get more details from the Cahir Social and Historical society on their social media feed.
The communities of Newcastle, Grange and Ardfinnan were left stunned in November last year, following the passing of local community Garda Niall O’Halloran. Niall, who was stationed for a while in Cahir, was a hugely popular figure in the area and was well respected and
liked by everybody that knew him. Niall was what many people would refer to as “the old stock” where he kept a close eye on the community and many people believe that people like him could prevent an incident, before it even happened. This week, the Niall O’Halloran memorial walk was announced and is due to take place on Saturday the 2nd of October, with proceeds in aid of Milford Hospice. The walk has been
organised by Nialls wife, Sandra as a thank you to the hospice for their amazing care for Niall in the last few months of his illness. The walk will take people from the community hall in Grange.
