Cahir Golf Notes

New Putting Green

The sod was turned last weekend and the machinery arrived early morning on Monday 30th of August to commence work on the long anticipated new putting green at the rear of Driving Range and in full view of Clubhouse. The location is great for Juniors and Not so Young, near Pro Shop and Ball Machines, Restaurant and Car Park. Great thanks due to committee who put a grant application together (approved and received) and to all who organised fundraisers to cover balance of costs. We all look forward to improving our skills on the putting green in early course.

Also, many thanks to Declan Walsh and his Course Team for the Trojan work on all Course Greens this week. We may be suffering with our putts these few days, but the rewards will be great for the Club. Thank you guys!

Tipperary League

Eight Clubs entered the Tipperary League this year. Stipulation was Handicap Index 28.0 and above on the day of competition, all matches flat, and no shots given, no caddies, Matchplay -Team of 5 players. First round was arranged for play in Dundrum on Sunday 22nd August. As the day approached, Templemore G.C. and Tipperary G.C. withdrew due to other club commitments allowing byes to Roscrea and Nenagh.

Before the ball was thrown in for All Ireland Hurling Final in Croke Park on that Sunday, the matches of Slievenamon v Thurles and Dundrum v Cahir Park were well underway. In what was a very exciting afternoon of golf in peace and quiet, due to the hurling match and in beautiful course conditions in Co. Tipperary Golf Club, the matches were close with most going up 14, 15 and 16 before resolution, Slievenamon and Dundrum were the victors.

Cahir Park was represented on the day by Mary Cotter, Lisa Blackett, Melissa Flavin, Anne Walsh and Marie Devitt. Pauline Mulcahy was in reserve and the Panel was managed by Kathleen Alton and Margaret Gill.

Best wishes to four remaining teams who play semi-finals this weekend in Thurles G.C. A big thank you to Caroline O’Dwyer, Dundrum G.C. who is Captain of Tipperary League this year for all her work in organising the League. All teams enjoyed wonderful food and conversation after the matches. Silver and Bronze Medals

Congratulations to Imelda Buckley who is the Winner of our Club Silver Medal this year and to Richella Dowling who won the Bronze Medal. Imelda is a superb golfer and has served the Club very well over many years. Richella joined Cahir Park in 2019 and has chosen to play the Regional Medals Final in Killarney G.C. on 7th September. Best wishes to both ladies for many more years of great golf.

Good wishes

In wishing Richella success in Killarney this week, we also wish Chris Noonan and Catherine Costigan success as they represent the Club in the Eileen Murphy Memorial Trophy competition in Cork Golf Club on 6th September.
