Replacement of the bus service
There was much anger and concern in the town and its environs last year, when Bus Eireann announced the cessation of the X8 Expressway Route between Cork and Dublin. The loss of the route was particularly hard on students, returning to college at weekends. It was also a vital service for elderly people, for whom driving to Cork city was a little daunting. The route will cease from Saturday September 4th. Thankfully, the National Transport service has announced that a new service, 245X will replace the route. The new route, termed a Public Service Obligation or PSO, will operate between Cork and Dublin, servicing Fermoy, Mitchelstown, Cahir and Cashel.
The route will operate 4 times daily and will commence on September 5th and will operate to the original timetable.
