Wilderness Rovers 3
Clonmel Celtic 2

Graham Kelly, Wilderness Rovers, put in a man of the match display against Clonmel Celtic

In the first Clonmel derby of the season, Wilderness Rovers took all three points against neighbours Clonmel Celtic in an entertaining five-goal thriller. After being relegated from the top flight last season, Celtic were hoping to make a swift return but were rocked as early as the 5th minute when Graham Kelly rose unmarked at the back post to plant his header to the bottom corner.Like all good sides Clonmel Celtic responded and they soon equalised when Rory O’Dowd found the net from the penalty spot.

Level at the break, both sides would have fancied their chances in the second half but it was Rovers who struck first. Sean Browne was played through on goal and he kept his cool to slot past the advancing keeper.Again Celtic responded and were level 15 minutes from time when Julian Kerton powered his header past Michael Boland. However Wildies managed to get the all important winner four minutes from time when Shane O’Meara scored the goal of the game to give the early season bragging rights to the home side.
